Department of Public Health Dentistry


Public Health Dentistry is a speciality in dentistry established in the year 1991 concerned with oral health of the community rather than the individuals. It aims to provide leadership and expertise in population-based dentistry, policy development, oral health promotion initiatives and emphasising on patient centred care rather than the disease centred care. 

The department strives and works to align with the principle of learning institution. The department also believes and functions to contribute in training, service, research and outreach realms of the institution. To this effect the department has a Centre in a rural area and comprehensive oral health care unit to meet the requirements of service and outreach. The department imparts training predominantly in the community settings providing experiential learning and the future work place for the advanced students. The research areas emphasizes on providing strategies for oral health promotion at community settings.
