The Faculty of Dental Sciences was earlier the M.S. Ramaiah Dental College and Hospital and was established in 1991.
The Faculty offers a 4‑year undergraduate programme including one year internship leading to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree and a 3‑year postgraduate programme leading to the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree

The Faculty also offers Certificate programmes in Esthetic Dentistry and Oral Implantology and a Doctoral research programme leading to the award of a Ph.D. degree.

The programmes and curriculum offered by the faculty adhere to norms prescribed by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The curriculum offered is outcome based and helps students to develop critical thinking abilities and to imbibe relevant practical skills for a smooth transition from academics to real life work environment. Opportunities are provided for students to do their internship in India or abroad depending upon their preference. Alumni of the Faculty are working for quality healthcare organizations in India and abroad and while many have established successful practices of their own

Our curriculum — in addition to adhering to the norms of the Dental Council of India — is designed to exhaustively cover oral and dental health. Special care is taken to ensure that students receive rigorous practical training under the guidance of experienced faculty members Research is also promoted and students are encouraged to develop a scientific curiosity about their field of study.

This multipronged approach to dental education ensures that, in addition to knowledge, our students are equipped with the skills necessary to navigate the uncertainty of the future. They are moulded into independent thinkers, determined scholars, and competent healthcare professionals who prioritize the well-being of patients above all else.

Student Life

The Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences is constantly buzzing with academic, sports, and cultural events.

Sports and Fitness

Students can make use of the well-equipped gym or the numerous indoor and outdoor sports facilities on campus. 

Sports enthusiasts can also become part of the university teams and train under attentive mentors and experienced professionals. 

Cultural Events

Students from all faculties enthusiastically participate in university-level cultural events, using them to not only showcase their talent, but to also engage with their peers from different fields of study. 

Awards and Achievements

In addition to inter- and intra-faculty events, students are actively encouraged to participate in events and fests by other universities. Our students have done us proud at competitions and events across the state and the country.

In-house Journal

FDS’s Journal of Dental and Orofacial Research (JDOR) is a double-blind peer-reviewed half-yearly journal by the Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. 

Envisioned as a comprehensive, multidisciplinary journal, JDOR focuses on several important research themes in the area of oral and dental health. Over the years, the Journal has made a name for itself as a quality publication that is steadfast in maintaining stringent academic and ethical standards. 

Facilities

The facilities at FDS include a wide range of labs that are designed and equipped to help students develop a deep understanding of their fields. Students learn under the close guidance of faculty members and experts, and learn to prioritise patient care with strict adherence to protocols and regulations. 

In addition to well-equipped department labs and clinics, FDS has an attached 250-chair Dental Hospital as well as access to the Advanced Learning Center, and partner hospitals, where students learn through observation and practice.
